Earthen Peak is the metaphorical cesspit of Dark Souls 2. All the crap that was left over from the design process was thrown into Earthen Peak; all the hopes and dreams of the development team that were shattered were amassed into a giant windmill that only produces poison. All the poison of the game had to be contained into that level so the rest of the game wouldn’t be infected.
>easiest fight in the game against Jabba the Hut
>unexplained burning of the windmill mechanic
>out of place Undead Crypt enemies
>ugly level design with horrendous neon-green color scheme
>random levers that do absolutely nothing but lift a pot to the ceiling
>manikins that could of potentially been the best/coolest enemies in the game
>an elevator at the TOP OF A WINDMILL that takes you UP to a sinking castle on top of a volcano
But it has the deepest lore set up by the development team, because it’s about the development team’s endless struggle against demanding companies and the poison created by that abrasion that kills your dream game. The fat Covetous Demon (Bamco) wanted to give unrequited love to Medusa, but her madness for perfection and resource gathering (the best souls game; development and R&D) caused her to cut her own head off (Dark Souls 1 head director Hidetaka Miyazaki). Meanwhile Covetous Demon just ate more (corporate greed) to fill the void.
